"Praise and Pray"

Today was an eventful day. I received several phone calls and text messages giving me reports of how God had answered prayers, and thanking me for my prayers. In the same day I also received phone calls and text messages asking for prayer or people needing to vent about problems and struggles they were facing. Today I really took to heart the scriptures that remind us to "pray without ceasing." We are people who should constantly be praising and praying to God. The youth at our church have a thing called "Praise and Pray," and it is in their Wednesday night Bible Study where they literally take time to praise God for what He has done for us and also time to share their petitions to the Lord. After all is said the group takes time to pray for both (thanking Him By praising Him, and giving Him their needs). That is what I love about prayer (although there is so much more to praying), realizing that God is both our provider and the God who answers when we call. As the provider God is the one who gives to His people everything they need, and as the answer He is the God that hears us and responds. I know it sound the same, but there is a difference for us. We praise God knowing that He is the God that Provided for us and when we cry out to God we know He is the God who hears us and answers. I know it stills sounds the same, but as a person who has been in both the praise time and in the pray time the difference is clear. You appreciate praising the God who provided and crying out to the God who will answer. I don't know what life has brought you today, but no matter if you are in a moment of praise and thankfulness or in a time of trouble and crying out, remember all the greatness God is and will be! Enjoy your "Praise and Pray" today and may it give you the peace and hope you need.

Nehemiah 3

Tonight we had a great adult Bible study, and it was a blessing to have a full house!!! We are covering Nehemiah in our studies and although we are on only our 2nd week, we have already learned so much. Today we covered chapter 3 and learned what a blessing it was to work together in God. As I led the study one of my main points was that the people who were rebuilding the wall were people who were not wall builders by trade. They were priests, goldsmiths, farmers, perfume makers, and the gereral Contractor (Nehemiah) was the a king's wine taster. Yet when it came time to work they saw the need and got to it, they worked together as a people and began the work to accomplish something great. I challenged those in the group to imagine what would happen in our family, or our church, or even our world if we became people who saw a need and stepped up to fill it. Could you imagine what would happen if your kids saw that the trash needed to be taken out and actually took it out (some mom just passed out on her keyborad thnking about this). What if we were in church and someone had a need, and another member stepped up to meet it. I was in my home town of Denver City earlier this month and I was talking to some church members of FBC Denver City, when another member came up and told my friends that one of the ladies from church needed some repairs done at her home. The next day several members went to her house and met the need. None of the men that went were actually plumbers or carpenters, but they heard a need and met it. What if we hear a need somewhere around the world? And if the church would rise and meet that need for those that were hurting, imagine what reputation God's people would have...Imagine how many people would fall on their knees and thank God. It doesn't matter what are career is in, or what are talents are when we the people of God get up and do things for God's honor and for His people (All are his people) we will begin to see God's people work through us. I leave you with this quote that I love very much "God doesn't call the qualified, He qualifies the called". Alow God to qualify you for is glory.

Prayer

Over the past month we have challenged our church members to make prayer a vital part of the lives. Prayer is one of the most used words in our language, but one of the least used actions in our church. We have adopted the 752 prayer program designed by Lakepoint Church in Rockwall, TX. 752 is a challenge to pray 7 days a week 52 weeks a year (hence the 7 52) it also is a challenge to pray 7 times a week with God and you, 5 times with your family, and 2 times with your spouse (singles are challenged to pray for their future spouse). We need to pray for our families and need to build our own spiritual life with Christ, and this will not happen without us building a life as people who pray. I encourage you to take time to focus on your own 752 with God.
